Off to Oz(or the cabin in the middle of the woods)

Sep 11, 2005 06:45

I stopped by to see if Avasa was all right since the last dream we shared I could tell he wasn't. Even if he is perfectly fine in dreams. He doesn't lie very well. Either way, I went to check on him, and met Willow (who's very pretty...beautiful really) and we all talked and somehow, I wound up being brought out to Avasa's cabin. I guess it really ( Read more... )

Avasa sat cross-legged in the middle of what would otherwise be called a living room if it weren’t spread out to include the kitchen and eating area as well. He hunched forward, drawing on a canvas a kaleidoscope of colors, white for the snow, yellow for the sand, and brown for the footprints they left behind. He had found some material in one of his cupboards from the time he drew Dawn’s portrait and was delighted with Cassie’s surprise at seeing them. Though what she needed more was sleep, and didn’t at all protest when he offered her his bed ( ... )

Dawn was a nervous wreck. She hadn't been able to concentrate on anything, still hadn't gotten to talk to Sophie... their schedules hadn't seemed to intersect yet... had barely been sleeping, and she'd gone by the house to see how Avasa was doing and had been told by Tara that Willow had driven him back home. Well, actually, what she'd said had been, "W-willow drove them back to the cabin."

Them?

Somewhere in the back of her mind, it had been nagging at her ever since before she and Avasa had fled Sunnydale for the long weekend. Cassie Newton, in her basement, holding hands with her boyfriend. Hearing the word them brought it all back ( ... )

Avasa frowned, he handn't heard anyone approach... or anyone's thoughts for that matter. He opened his mind to the person on the other side of the door and just as always, was surprised by who was on there. "Dawn," he whispered silently and opened the door.

His face fell at her expression. "Dawn?" he reached out to her.

Dawn's mind raced with confused thoughts: just look at him, he's so beautiful... how come nobody told me what was going on? why did I have to go to my house to find out he wasn't still there? I don't understand... I'm afraid that-- She swallowed. "Avasa?"

She went to him, fitting herself against his body, breathing in his familiar scent. For a few seconds she closed her eyes and was comforted. Then she opened them, gazing over his shoulder at the room... the far side of the room, the open bedroom door... a blonde lying on the bed.

Dawn blinked rapidly, trying to keep her eyes from spilling over. She kept her gaze fixed on his shoulder, seizing her lip in her teeth and biting into it. She was determined to be levelheaded about this. Whatever it was.

"Why are the two of you sharing dreams?" Her voice was a little choked but clear.

Avasa wanted to reach out and hold her and tell her everything was going to be okay, but he kept his hands to his sides, trying to keep his voice steady. He was quickly breaking up at the sound of Dawn's voice. He could hear her heart breaking.

"...Willow seems to think the plant has connected us in some way."

The plant. Dawn thought about that for a few seconds, and her brain seized upon a possibility. She raised her fingers to his jaw, lightly trailing them across it. "Is she... checking to find out how to unconnect you?" she asked hopefully.

If anyone could do something like that, Willow could. And Dawn hoped that she was, because something about the thought of her boyfriend having a connection to someone else bothered her.

"Yes," he leaned into Dawn's touch, a small smile on his face. "She thinks being in close proximity will help us until she finds another way."

Cassie woke slowly. It was the moan followed by the soft thunk that did it. She opened her eyes, wondering what it was she'd heard and glanced into the other room.

She needed to leave. Fast. Like, ten minutes ago or something. She tried to clear her head and hoped that Avasa hadn't picked up that she'd been awakened. Quickly, she glanced around the room and saw the window. She moved over to it, and decided it was her best route. It wouldn't disturb the couple, and she could slink away to...er...wait outside. Or something. Clear head! She needed a clear head! She tried to center herself, and did, then went for the window.

Avasa deepened the kiss and lowered Dawn’s right leg, allowing her to have some freedom to move, while his left hand moved up her thigh. He was suddenly very interested in the girl in front of him, so interested in fact that when he heard the faintest flicker of someone waking her batted it off, now trailing the kisses down Dawn’s neck and along her collarbone.

Dawn couldn't stop shivering, a fine tremor that ran along her limbs and left a sprinkling of goosebumps in its wake. Her eyes were squeezed tightly closed, and her hands slid restlessly underneath the back of his shirt to find the warm skin of his back. Her breathing was rapid as his lips traveled.

Cassie got out the window without too much incident. she dropped down outside in a crouch, and was glad she hadn't caught anyone's attention. She focused herself on static. She'd almost thought of snow, had for a few seconds but the association wasn't one she wanted to go with. Static it was. It was as good as she was going to get for blank. Not when she could hear the enthusiastic making out going on.

She had to get out of there. She picked a direction and went, leaving the cabin behind. She promised herself she wouldn't go far, since...well, she didn't know if she went away if he'd start losing coherency again. That would be pretty traumatic for Dawn.

And that was the trick, really. Think about the trauma Dawn could go through, Avasa could go through, instead of her own feelings. So, right. Helping. Just helping in the not being in the way, way. Which was a perfectly valid way to help.

Helping. Yeah.

Cassie headed into the woods after hearing another muffled moan from the cabin.
