Alone

So I got away scott free. Yay. Whatever. I'm wishing now that I'd never come here. I knew that things were all not right and would be uncomfortable and everything, what I didn't know was that I'd be waking up to seeing the two of them seconds before they started screwing against the wall ( Read more... )

How embarrassing was this? On a scale of 1 to 10? About 200, Dawn mused as she began walking away from the cabin. She was fully dressed again but she still looked rumpled... no amount of combing her hair or straightening her clothes seemed to help that I-just-had-sex look. Of course some of that was probably due to the stubble burn on her cheek. She breathed a quiet sigh, wondering just how it was that Avasa had talked her into this. Okay so yeah, she supposed she'd rather go find Cassie than have him do it, but...

"Shut up," she muttered to her brain, and pushed a stray branch out of her way as she plodded along the path. There was an infinite amount of woods out here. How was she supposed to find the girl?

Cassie had been half asleep, drifting in and out of conciousness for a while. She didn't know how long anymore. She heard Dawn well before she saw her, the crashing through the underbrush alerting the blonde seer to the other girl. She groaned when she saw her. How much did she not want to speak to her? Oh...she'd probably give up a limb. She suspected Avasa was behind it.

Men could be soooo stupid sometimes.

She wondered if she could just let Dawn pass by and not say anything, but figured that that wasn't very nice. The girl had come looking for her, so she'd find her, even if she didn't want to talk to her. She waited the long while for Dawn to get near under the tree. "Up here." she said quietly.

Dawn had been walking for fifteen minutes, and she'd been starting to wonder if she was going the wrong way. Maybe she left. Went back to school. No, that'd never happen. She couldn't be that lucky.

She jumped a little when she heard Cassie's voice. Glancing up, she saw the blonde high up in a nearby tree. Even as she blushed ferociously, her brow furrowed. What's she doing up there?

"Uh... hi," she said, her voice nearly a squeak. She couldn't stop herself from wondering when, exactly, Cassie had fled the cabin during all that.

Cassie bit back several statements. None of them would lead to anything good. "You come to get me?" she asked. Or to send me packing? She didn't move to get out of her tree yet, liking the distance between them just fine. She wasn't in any hurry to get closer.

Before, Dawn might've bristled at that last remark, but with the smell of him all over her, the slight hollow feeling inside her where he'd been so recently, she couldn't. "I know," she said softly. Her fingers wandered to the stubble burn on her cheek. "There's nobody like him."

"There really isn't." Cassie said softly, crossing her arms on a branch and leaning her chin on them. "I won't try, you know. Just...so you know. I won't even try." She wanted her to know that. She thought of telling Dawn that she'd already tried to give him up entirely just so that things wouldn't get all stupid, but didn't want to get into that. It was hard enough to think of without trying to explain it to someone else.

The suspicions she'd had coalesced in the pit of her stomach, and Dawn thought for a long time before she said anything else. It was never him I had to worry about... She felt ashamed of herself as soon as she'd thought that. Had she ever been attracted to somebody who belonged to someone else? Sure. Who hadn't?

Finally, she said, "We've been together for a year. He's one of the sweetest people alive." A long pause as she twisted the ring she wore on her finger. "But then you know that."

Cassie nodded. She did. She still didn't look down at Dawn. "You don't have to worry. I'm not...I'm not that kind of person." she clarified. "I um...I actually tried to tell him that I should just stay away." she said, deciding maybe that would help matters. "Hardest decision ever, I have to say." she said, giving a weak smile, and turning her eyes down to Dawn finally. "But he said that what was best for him was that we be friends. So..." she shrugged one shoulder. "So he'll get what he wants. I'm sorry. If I knew how to not like him I'd do it in a second...this kinda feels really really awful." Understatement of the year.

"It's okay," Dawn said quickly, wanting to stop her from the continuous apologies. Well, it was as okay as it was going to be under the circumstances. She got to her feet, brushing at the seat of her jeans. "I guess I should, um... go make sure he's okay still."

"It's fine," Dawn said hastily. "I, um, have to get back to school. I'll just tell him good-bye, and--. Yeah." She took a breath.

Cassie gave her a smile that was warmer than any she'd given to her yet. "I'll be back later. Take your time." she said, and leaned back to look up at the leaves again.
