Pants

I hate shopping for pants. ALWAYS they end up gapping horribly at the waist, riding up around my arm pits and barely covering my thighs. Probably why I only own 2 pairs of jeans and a pair of black pants for my work wardrobe ( Read more... )

Have you thought about getting pants tailored? I think getting the waist taken in is a pretty common thing tailors can do. You could also try a belt as a stopgap measure. It won't help with the low rise, though.

I know you have athletic legs- one of my friends with a similar build has solved this problem by wearing skirts almost exclusively.

I have thought about tailoring but I tend to find that if the pants are big enough across the thighs the waist needs to be taken in a few inches which is beyond a simple alteration. Sadly I'm not fond of skirts but I may have to take a second look.

"Athletic legs"... I like it :) You are much more polite then my uncle who simply calls me thunder thighs.

I actually like some of the Gap's pants. They have a flare jean and a "perfect trouser" that I pretty much live in now. I anticipate buying pants only there from now on which is pretty extreme.

I often have a similar "loose at waist barely work everywhere else" issue.

Ironically, pants from the Gap don't gap.

Hmmm Gap? I'll have to look into it, thanks!

This may not be useful for your waist/hip proportions, but I find that men's relaxed-fit pants, worn below my natural waist and more on my hips (reduces waist-gap), work really well for me and don't bind on the legs at all.

I'll take a wonder over to the mens section next time. Frankly I'm very hippy so I'm not sure it will work but thanks for the suggestion!

I'm going to second Frances here - I find men's pants often fit better than woman's for these problems. I've also had luck with Eddie Bauer pants (and Land's End, but their quality has gone down in recent years).

Good luck!
