A proposition

"That Election Day should be a public holiday."

Well, the U.S. has dumber public holidays. But what do you think?

Don't forget that Election Day is every year, not just every fourth year.

The first tuesday in Nov is election day every year. However, there are frequently anywhere from 3 to 9 additional election days most years. A lot of folks blow off the littler elections mostly in the spring, generally they have to do with school or fire district funding. I just dont think election day is practical as a holiday. Also in some states bars must be closed so long as polls are open which is probably bad for a holiday since voting only takes about 15 min.

federal elections should be holidays, yes.

local elections are way too frequent. and of course, we'd have to give up a holiday we already get... i dunno.
