Obsession.

Do your pets have an obsession with an object or room in your house? Do you try to correct the behavior? Do you ignore it? Encourage it?

Brought to you by our puppy's obsession with the bathroom, the shower head, and the door stop in said bathroom. If I lock him out of the bathroom he cries and scratches at the door.

Grace, our GS, is obsessed with sticks. The larger the stick, the more she likes it. She has a collection in a corner near the back door, and she's constantly added to it. Her latest favorite stick is a thirty pound piece of a tree branch that she likes to carry around to show off.

There's really no reason for us to correct her behavior at this point.

My mom's dog does that too - she has a pile in the garage.

One of the cats (not the one pictured in the icon) has an obsession with bottle caps. As in, the screw on caps from like 2 liters and whatnot. He likes to bat them around, carry them in his mouth, and... play fetch.

If you toss a bottle cap, he will chase it, pin it down, pick it up in his mouth, and bring it back to you for another go. If he sees you open a bottle of water or something, he will stare at the "cappy" until we give it to him. Then once a week I gather up all 400 million cappies he has acquired and toss most of them because they're a bitch to step on.

It's cute to play fetch with him and he could have worse habits/obsessions, so I count myself lucky. :D

Our dog does the same thing with the bathroom but only if *I* go in and close the door. If my husband goes in he'll sit outside the bathroom and wait patiently and quietly. When I go in to shower or use the bathroom he *has* to come with me. He'll lick he doorstop to get it to make a sound or he'll jump in the tub and stare at the shower head.

Miso is obsessed with her blankie. She always lays on it and sucks on it. If anyone else is sitting on it she'll stare at them and meow until they get off.

Mah dawg is obsessed with the cat. Not in an "I want to eat you" kind of way, more in a stalkerish, staring kind of way. As in, if Frick's there she'll stare at her, like stare at her intently, frozen to the spot. If Frick isn't there, she'll stare at where she disappeared, in case she comes back.

I'm not too concerned about it because a) it's bred into heading dogs to be a bit OCD (before Frick when First was a working sheepdog, she had the same obsession with sheep/chickens/anything alive), and b) it appears that the cat isn't disturbed by it - in fact, Frick seems to delight in sitting just in view for First to get excited about.

It's never led to aggression or even a hint of it.
