I feel sick

A few months ago, some venison livers came into my possession. I only wanted 1-2 to try a pate recipe I had, and the game supplier down at Watton Farmers' Market screwed up royally and I ended up buying a large box containing about 20 livers, each weighing a couple of pounds. It was a big misunderstanding between the couple on the stall and their ( Read more... )

You might want to put off adding "Render my own lard" to your 43 Things.

Pate is horrid to make. I've done it twice, and both times it put me off eating it for months.

So, yeah ... I understand.

I've now binned all the pate as well. Just looking at it was making me feel sick - I think I'll go back to making duck or chicken liver pate the other way when you cook the liver first - much more civilised. (Nice to see you around, btw - haven't for ages).

Maybe you should pass it on--it probably tastes quite delicious to someone who hasn't been dealing with it by the ton. Or you could market it as a deer repellent--"smear around the edge of your garden to save your shrubs" kind of thing.

That seems a little brutal to me. Using cooked, smushed venison liver as deer repellent is like putting up a sign that says, "Yo, Bambi, you ain't nothin' but chopped liver to us, so scram, or you'll wind up like what's left of yo mama here."

Best ever opening line in an LJ entry! However, I am starting to retch when I read through your food entries, which isn't a great testimonial for a budding cookery writer.

LOL! Yes, it's all a bit too carnivorous for me as well right now. I think we're going to be having salad tonight (that nice one we had in SF with the beetroot and orange).

Really, Catherine. If you don't someday write a novel that opens with that line, I will be very disappointed.

At the very least, it could be the start of a fun Round Robin.

Yuck! I don't eat venison at all, much less liver. And those must have been some heavy-duty organs to tear up your big blender.

I think it was the combination of various ingredients which were quite dense - the ground pork, and even the bread/milk combo was a thick, glutinous mess.

I really like venison - I see it as a slightly healthier version of beef, as the taste isn't dissimilar, but I'm never going to be able to face doing anything with the livers again.
