How can they "require" you to be friends on Facebook? What if weren't on Facebook? You can always set up a "venting" group of just your close, non-coworker friends to vent. You can also setup you security to block them from seeing certain posts.
I agree with Shannon. They can't require you to befriend them on Facebook. If they need to contact you they have your email address and, even if they need FB to communicate with you, they can set a private group where you can talk only about work and they can't spy on your private life. Secondly, you have a indipendent job without a fixed timetable, haven't you? So it shouldn't care what you do during your days as soon as you respect the deadlines and your work is good. Thridly: how can an intern access to his/her boss email and take decisions on his behalf? And finally, don't matter what kind of work you do, there will be always people, like that Nhi woman, who will put a spanner in your works. I often see situations like this in my office!
I'm way late in reading this...but I would have been just as pissed off as you were...and I agree with Shannon and Paola...you shouldn't have to 'befriend' anyone on Facebook...they have all your other communication forms to get hold of you if necessary...they should not have to intrude upon your 'free' time....
