LJ Idol Week 5

It was the summer of 1972. It was incredibly hut and humid as it can be in west Michigan in August.  The only cool place was our dirt basement. It was cool, but not a desirable place to spend much time. Dirt and moldy walls were not very appealing unless you happened to be a salamander or a shrew or some kind of spider. Very well written. I wish he HAD decided to build a mousetrap instead of an air conditioner! That may have been less disastrous…

I really loved reading this. It makes me think of how we could only afford one window unit for our house as a child, and we used to pile into my parents' room in the summer at night so we could sleep on the floor. Not as inventive, but yeah, that's what I thought of.

I also prayed for the future of my lungs. This is my favorite line. It's so innocent, so observant, so much like how a child would think. It really made this piece for me, as weird as that probably sounds.

Oh my god, that would have terrified me. I would be panicked about accidentally walking on fiberglass shards for weeks.
