Chief Menominee

Last month we went for a drive on a really hot Saturday and decided to go the Chief Menominee Memorial Site, which is a little south of Plymouth, Indiana (the Marshall County seat). A lovely memorial - but how sad that the memorial was needed.

The flowers and the candle are such a personal touch, it would be interesting to see if they are replaced regularly or if it was one person visiting with a real personal link.

That is a nice honour for him ... of a sad time in history.

I loved the TV series Dr Quinn ... and on the later series they dealt with some of the horrors that the tribes were put through.

I imagine there are similar memorials across the country and it really is sad that they're necessary.

I'm already thinking about when to go back - maybe Labor Day weekend - it'll be nearly 3 months later so probably a good interval.

I used to watch the show. I particularly remember an episode about sickle cell anemia (but it wasn't called that back then).

Sadly, its seems we don't always learn from our history.

I have a post about it that I haven't had a chance to get up yet. I did do a quick little post on Facebook right after we got back, which is probably what you saw. It's amazing what you can stumble on locally!
