Hip Hip Hooray For Deep House!

This afternoon I discovered my new favorite electronic music genre; or rather, I discovered the name for a style of music I have enjoyed on occasion, but lacked a way to categorize it. Now I do: it's called Deep HouseWhy the appeal? The jazzy breaks, the soft overtones, a kind of vibe, soul, that either conjures lazy summer afternoons or a quiet ( Read more... )

I love stuff like this! Like you said, it makes me think of the martini bar I was just never hip enough to go to :D

Actually, here's a few tracks I liked from a place I used to work that I'd jotted down.

Cosmos Sound Club -- Les Crysanthemes

Quantic -- The Fifth Exotic

I feel like there were more, but those are the two I remember off-hand. I'll let you know when I stumble across any others.

Heh, I go to a bar that plays stuff like this pretty frequently. What does that say about me? :3

Check out the Beat Blender channel on somafm.com. It bills itself as deep house and downtempo.

Nice sounds! Cood for chilling. Quite urban to my ears - big city at night kind of stuff.

Nice to hear you have been writing! Must catch up.

I finally listened to this -- *laughs*. I got on a kick for music similar to this a little while ago, though without the lyrics. Listening to words while I'm writing is distracting. I kinda called the stuff I listen to, which is a bit more downtempo, "Euro Lounge".

Anyway, if you want samples of one of my favorites...here it is on Amazon:

And yes, this is by THAT David Arkenstone. ;-)

Y'know, normally I'm terribly bothered by songs with words in them whilst writing too, but I have discovered with the DH songs that even if they crop up, it doesn't interrupt my flow. Weird, that!

And re: David Arkenstone - Chillout Lounge. A wonderful find, thank you! Whilst as the name implies it still stays put in the 'chillout' genre, it does sit very comfortably alongside the Deep House stuff indeed. I shall be using this CD in my playlist often, I think :-)

I am listening to it right now. :-)

Oh, and a few more suggestions -- Tourist, by St. Germain. Temperamental, by Everything But The Girl. And anything by Thievery Corporation.

Again, might not be the same beats/rhythms, but they're about all I could think of. OH -- and try to use Pandora to match to something similar. :-)
