I am sure he appreciated the thought. Regarding fasting thing, I keep trying to tell you most people will happily eat what they are served, especially at an event like that. I always appreciate it if people think of it, but I don't mention it, and wouldn't expect people to go to any bother, or even be aware of it.
I don't think you should worry too much about the possible social blunder. Hopefully no one was offended. It doesn't sound like they were.
That sounds very cool re apple butter. I need to acquire some apples, and start some.
