It's easy to hate the needy, because interacting with them tends to be a net loss. And so we disparage behaviors that signal neediness and poverty. The word "classy" is classist.

Just glancing at your userinfo, and reading a couple of your posts, you seem like a cool person, BTW. :) Or at least the kind of person I'd want to hang out with. I'm only making the distinction since because I'm not cool, it probably means I'm inadequately equipped to make such judgements about other people... ;)
