I'm kicking around a few thoughts about a new art project this evening and I was wondering if I could get a little input from your guys.

Please tell me what the word safe means to you. It can be just a word or two if you like.

Thanks!

Not-threatened. Somewhere that I can relax or someone I can relax around.

Synonyms: secure, protected.

I feel safe when I am somewhere familiar with people I trust. I also feel safe alone, as long as I am in a place I feel is safe or protected in some way. I believe my belongings to be safe if they are guarded, but items of significant personal value (irrespective of monetary value) are safe only if I am the one looking after them.

I can probably elaborate further but this is possibly all you need.

There's the thing (tree/post/wall) you can touch so that no one else can get you in chasing games.

Slang we used commonly growing up, used to indicate agreement or describe something as pretty darned cool.

I know I already replied, but I like thinking about words and what they mean to people. Astonishing, I know, given my profession.

Reading the other replies and thinking further, I don't think I associate it with the same meanings as the majority of people. Of course I understand that safe can mean hidden, protected, secure, and I obviously use it in that way sometimes, but aside from childhood slang, the words boring, unadventurous, over-protected, possessive and sheltered are the ones that spring to mind. I use the word in a scornful way more often than I would use it to describe a desirable situation. I think safe is over-rated.

it's been an awful long time since I felt safe.

safe is the brief moment when I know that, just for now, nothing can go wrong.
