More new things and firsts
Jamie's understanding is exploding right now. At least, his ability to express it certainly is. A few days ago, after Adrian was handing out olives from his pizza to the kids, I asked "what about *my* olive?". Me: come on Jamie, we're going out, I need to brush your hair.
Jamie: mess!
Me: you're right, it is a mess.
Jamie: mummy hair mess too!
At which I got all defensive and then ran off to check it in the mirror. *I* think it looks fine, thanks hon. -

Talking toddlers
On Monday Jamie said a perfect 5 word sentence: "One more book, please mummy". It's not his first long sentence, but it seems to me to be a pretty good indication of how well he speaks now. Today while watching Hairspray (again) he pointed at the march scene and said "walkers" - a grammatical construction I didn't know he knew. When I asked if they ( Read more... ) -
Miscellany
We are now a formula free household! We switched Katie to whole milk over the weekend, and she took to it as well and as quickly as Jamie did. I'm going to keep the pre-measured formula packets around for a while, just in case I need to make milk and I only have water (you never know), but I don't actually anticipate using them ( Read more... ) -
A Whole Lot of Firsts
A couple of days ago, Jamie finally started saying "yes". He's had a handle on "no" for some time, but "yes" was eluding him. Yesterday, I finally got him saying "yes please". He has to think so hard to put the two words together! It's clearly quite an effort for him, but he's really pleased with himself when he does ( Read more... ) -
Notes for Posterity
Katie walked her first steps (more than just one step and fall over) yesterday evening at Tot Spot. Today she hasn't done any, but she's been demanding to walk around holding hands all day. No really ALL DAY. She also can now speak four words fairly consistently: mummy, daddy, banana and cracker. Guess what's important to my little eating machine ( Read more... ) -
Because sometimes you really do run out of time
This is the letter I wrote to my granddad. He had been sick in hospital for 3 weeks but I just kept putting off writing it. Eventually, when mum told me he only had a week or two left, I knuckled down and wrote it. Adrian looked after the kids for me so I could concentrate, despite being so ill he should have been in bed.
