I finished The Bell Jar last night.
When she was writing it I'm sure the working title was Sylvia Plath's Big Book of Similes and Metaphors. There was about one every 4 sentences, and many served no purpose other than to show off Plath's imagination and poetic ability. Other problems I had with this book include:

I finished Cyrano de Bergerac today. I really liked this play - Cyrano has been the most interesting character I've read about this year. Unlike Billy Pilgrim or Gulliver who were disconnected observers, Cyrano made the action happen. Poor People, Ain't That a Shame
I finished Ethics for the New Millenium last night. This is the opposite of Walden. Thoreau's point of view was that he could survive independently, while the Dalai Lama says that humans have no other choice but to depend on one another. But we all know that Thoreau cut corners. I was scammed back in '96. Actually, my parents were scammed by the United States Achievement Academy. It was one of those scams where parents fill out a form and pay a sum of money to have their kid's name appear in a leather-bound gold-lettered book. Of the two English translations of The Water Margin that I'm aware of (one was titled Outlaws of the Marsh, the other one was titled All Men Are Brothers) the Carnegie Library says it has both, but I couldn't find the first part of either one. They had volume 2 of the Pearl S. Buck translation, but as I wasn't too eager to start reading the middle ( Read more... ) -

I finished Gulliver's Travels last night. I was also reading along with some notes while I read the book so I could understand all the references to English politics. Are we all just a bunch of Yahoos? I thought this was a great book, even though I was reading an edition that was edited to leave out certain parts of the story (Lindalino's revolt ( Read more... ) -

I finished Slaughterhouse Five, which was supposed to be my book for March according to my book list. I liked it, as I've liked everything I've read by Vonnegut so far. It was very easy to read, funny and entertaining, but I think there's better and more moving anti-war books out there (like Night by Elie Wiesel)
On to Gulliver's Travels.
