Seriously?

The iPad? Seriously?!?!

Apple named their new fangled tablet device the iPad? Were any women consulted on the name choice at any point in the marketing process? Word association would have been enough. *rolls eyes and sniggers not so silently*

I suspect that the team that came up with the name was an all-male team who felt very smug and proud at the time of the decision. If any of them are married, it's very likely that they are no longer so smug and proud at the moment. (Of course, if it turns out that there was a massive internal debate of whether or not to name the device iPad before the decision was made, I'm probably going to be one of the many people who will laugh and then bang their head against a flat surface.)

On the other hand, I suppose we should be grateful it wasn't "iLap" or "iFlat"? ...Or perhaps, at this point, iAnything sounds weird...even if Apple wasn't trying to "defy categorization."

I can sort of make a Star Trek reference with PADD, but uggg. iPad also rhymes too closely with iBad. =( I had such high hopes for the gadget too.

I'm beginning to think that this naming business for Apple was never going to end well in this instance. iBad would be a sad self-proclaimation for a product to have...

I did hear a few things that make me hate the name a little bit less. Not much though.

1. They wanted something that started with a 'P' like the iPhone and iPod.
2. They decided iSlate was too old fashion and iTablet was three syllables which didn't match the iPhone and iPod. They wanted you to be able to say the word quick.
3. They realized how much free press they would get by people mocking the name iPad, but eventually they decided it would just become part of our vernacular and we wouldn't think anything of it.

*head desk*

I feel the same way about whoever named Hummers. Seriously? That had to be a Y chromosome speaking.

*shakes head*

Sadly, it was the first thing I thought of.
