Equality is rarely precise

I've deleted the long, rambling post on a personal philosophy to spare anyone the pain of having to read it. Nonetheless, I still wanted to share something. I came across the following poem in my Japanese Writing text book

And too bad you deleted the ramble. I for one would have been eager to read it.

侘寂 as it is usually understood to mean is from a much later period. Wikipedia has an article here. I think the poem I gave isn't quite melancholy enough to qualify. (^_^)

It's certainly making me melancholy. Although, I was already melancholy before; been moping about all weekend.

Or, err, 物の哀れ? 侘寂 feels to me like having more of a natural-world connection, and the mountains of vanity are clearly metaphorical. Or am I just trying to needlessly slot this poem's aesthetic into the few concepts of Japanese Buddhism I am familiar with when it's really much more universal...
