I honestly don't think I can disagree with anything you said. Personally, I've always liked Ed and Winry (I haven't been able to ship them actively very much, but I was pleased as punch when they became canon), and I think that Al/Mei is absolutely adorable. I really don't know where all the Mei and Winry hating is coming from

There are so many female-character-hating girls in fandom, it's absurd. I think a major part of that contingent would be yaoi fans who think that any female character will "get in the way" of their various male/male OTPs. I think another aspect of it is that females in fandom don't want to relate to (or admit to relating to) female characters because they often show weakness. Weakness and emotions are what make these characters human. Arakawa has crafted many strong female characters in FMA - they work, they fight, they do what they can in the given situations. Unless a female character (especially a female lead) is some badass warrior type, there will always be someone complaining about her being bitchy/useless/whiny/annoying/etc.

Well, in FMA lots of the characters show weakness, male and female alike. I can see not wanting to relate to some of the (admittedly) weepy and stereotyped girls you see in some of the hardcore shoujo, but these girls are awesome.

And the girl getting in the way of the yaoi is just dumb -_-. They should be able to justify their otp around the other characters and relationships, bashing the girls won't make it more believable. grrr

Well, I mostly get annoyed at how they gave her a pointless story yet ruined the stories of people like paninya and etc, because she isn't so "pretty" and "delicate" and "angsty" I suppose. i really hate that mentality of people, when they cry about Rose being unappriciated and Arakawa being mean to minor characters when they blatantly ignore this fact and... yeah.

Besides, Arakawa's use is much more flattering for Rose, I'd say. For the Anime, i understand bad stuff happens in war, but the way her story was executed left her as a character-less doll and really... pointless.

I know, FMA is so refreshing. It has a little bit for everyone, people who like humour, action, a good and engaging plot, strong characters, and simple romance that isn't in your face and sparkling every second.

I just don't visit forums anymore. That used to be the main cause of all my fandom-induced stress. I prefer to discuss FMA stuff on my own journal now. The fandom seems to have quieted down a bit on LJ so that also helps.

Funny, most of the Death Note fans I know think it is a romance. [/sarcasm]

I love Winry. I have to confess I'm mostly familiar with anime!Winry but I love her. (I actually do like anime!Rose. I don't think she was in love with anyone, especially after everything that happened to her, but I like her. It was a sob story but she handled it with some dignity.)

But picking on a female character for having big breasts is really dumb. I had a whole ran on that on here ages and ages ago, because I'm a big fan of Seras Victoria from Hellsing. Does she have overdone breasts? Sure, but that doesn't mean she has no personality or character. And don't get me started on Faye Valentine.

(Which is not say Winry looks like either of them in the chest department anyway.)

Well, I think she still loves Cain,a nd if not, then she is just getting over everything. I eman, in the movie she accpeted Ed's death, just like Cain's, so she's not especially disheartened.

I like how the manga has her dragging Winry away a la Hughes, having a gigantic closet with organized colours, and a rubber ducky with an eyepatch. That says so much more about her than some

You haven't? Seriously? She's one of the most bashed characters in FMA! Even my IRL friends group hates her. There's a hate club of her on DA, people drawing pictures of her dead, people bashing her and killing her and making her OOC and weepy in fics over Ed, and etc.

I didn't care too much for Mei at first, but she grew on me xD;. She really did feel out of place, but it's refreshing now. She's so fun to work with 9I rp her a lot).

I'm a canon nazi as well. Well, i don't care what you like, so long as you accept the reality that it's not canon, and don't twist facts to your need. (Like this EdNoa fan who was saying that EdNoa is more canon than EdWinry in the manga, and Winry's love for Ed in the manga is so unrequited it's not even funny, hurhur).

I know. I also like how EdRose fans like to label EdWinry as cliche when that same arguement can be used for EdRose as well. hey, she's the first pretty young thign to appear! And she calls him arrogant! And they have a disagreement! And he saves her! The classic elements of a shoujo manga.

I know. The creator's not gonna please everyone. It's her story. I mean, I LOVE ShikaIno from Naruto, but I know it still has a chance of being ShikaTema. (My friend knows the creator, she said he's still deciding) But yeah,. if ShikaTema happens, I won't tell their fans "Oh, how pointless!" because the series didn't go my way in a certain way. I won't like it, but I won't bitch about the right people have to like it.
