Girl In the War
by Branwyn

*

fandom: Harry Potter
rating: PG-13 Glimpses of dub con (not in the main pairing) and lots of illicit professor/student snoggage.
notes: I think of this as Snape/Harry, with a twist. Canon through Deathly Hallows.

summary: Snape's life would have been so much simpler if Rose Potter had been born a boy.

Oh, I like this. I wish it were longer, but don't take that as a "write more plz1!!!1!!!" sort of request -- rather, as a "wow, this universe is fascinating".

Thank you! I actually kind of feel the same way, like I want to write more in that universe, maybe with some drabbles. Not sure if I will or not, but it isn't out of the question. Glad it elicits that kind of interest in you, though. :)

Just last night I was imagining how the entire series of books would have been different if Harry had been born a girl. My version of this universe had some differences from yours, though.

I was picturing girl!Potter with red hair, brown eyes and glasses. Her two best friends were Ginny Weasley and a male version of Hermione (couldn't decide on name for him) who hangs out with two girls because he is so bookish, so bad at sports, and so socially inept that none of the boys his age want to hang out with him, except Neville of course.

I ran into a brick wall when I was unable to decide who would pair off with whom, romantically. Obviously you had absolutely no trouble at all with that part. Or you just have a dirtier mind than I do. :P

I just remembered that last night, as I was drifting off to sleep, I had decided that girl!Potter would end up with Ron Weasley, Ginny's older brother who girl!Potter realized that she had a crush on in Book 6; even though they'd never hung out together, they were on the same Quidditch team together that year and the year before. Plus, he is Ginny's brother, so they would have seen each other at the Burrow.

I like how you slipped George into your story as Ivy's potential boyfriend, though. I think it makes more sense for a girl version of Potter to go for an older guy.

I'd also like to second the motion for more stories/drabbles from this universe you have created.

Heh. Well I'm not the first person to do girl!Harry. I might be the first person to pair her with Snape, but I'm not sure about that either. I intentionally did my best to keep Ivy as much like Harry as possible. I literally wanted her to be Harry Potter with a girl's body, so I kept the friends the same. I figured she'd go out with George because of the way they met on the Hogwart's express.

Oh, I know that it's not an original idea. I just thought that it was ironic that you would post this story the day after I'd mused myself to sleep with the very same idea.

*goes to re-read Book 1 to refresh her memory on how Harry meets George on the Hogwart's express*

:-) Well it's nice to know there will be some kind of audience available if I do write more.

Why you make Sirius creepy? D:

I still love you, though, because that was a really good and fairly thorough girl!Harry story.

To quote Hermione, I don't think Sirius is creepy, I just think he's been very lonely for a very long time. ^_^

Fascinating. I love it; it's really really painful. I'd read a long form version. Just a great idea, with endless room for speculation; poor Ivy Potter.

It really highlights what that one little change could do...

It is kinda painful, isn't it? I probably shouldn't be so happy about that...:)

No, you should be proud! "Sad is happy for deep people," remember?
