What in the 'Verse happened?

I like this glimpse of the whole crew and their behaviour in an obviously fraught situation. I like your use of the word maelstrom - it depicts things so well.

Mal thinking about Serenity's hydraulics is good too. Maybe he'll let Kaylee fix them sooner next time!!!

After I finished Bank, I was wondering why Inara was hiding Serenity and then this came... I was seeing the chase in The Message in Bank, but I had The Train Job on the mind when it just went haywire...again... And Mal, well, we know he is always caught up in Captainy thoughts and problems, but sometimes they bite them all in the ass... and of course, Jayne being well, Jayne...

Really vivid - and nice way to show how Jayne really feels about them through his actions!

Thank you! I like how his actions are what you have to go by most of the time. He is not one to just say what he feels all that much. What he thinks, yes, feels? Not so much.

Cut it out!!! First you share my brain, and then you ask the questions that just insist on being answered... It will take a big leap for Mal to have that faith- recall, Jayne tried to pummel him to death. Not exactly what makes for warming of the cockles of one's heart...

River's faith now, that I see as being more intense than anyone really gives her credit for. She trusts him more than she trusts herself.

(Just kidding btw- Please keep asking the questions. They make my Muse all sparkly and cheerful and she goes off contentedly whistling to hear the story they lead to.)
