First of all, I don't agree with all of the standardized testing. I don't think states, governments, school boards, and sometimes even administration know what they're doing in making new lists of skills--Basic Competencies, Portfolios, NCLB, CCSS. Fantastic post! Too bad the people who make the rules won't listen to common sense from people in the trenches. I teach high school English at a very poor school in Oklahoma City. We are preparing for CCSS, and it seems such a waste. As Winston Smith would say, trading one piece of nonsense for another.

Such a smart post, Cindy. I'm sorry you aren't teaching anymore (though I understand it). Our kids and their teachers need folks like you and the example you set.
