Just back from seeing the Mezcal Brothers with Crystal at Jules Mae's. Neither of us had been there before. It's in Georgetown, which is a somewhat surreal no-mans-land in southern Seattle. Had dinner at a small restaurant right next to Boeing field that obviously caters to Boeing folks. Model planes hanging from the ceiling. Plane posters and ( Read more... )

Evidently Leon (Shake the Shack's host) gets some flak every year for not making the Rockabilly Ball all-ages. So this year he was trying to set up an all-ages show at the Sunset Tavern as part of the weekend. I'm curious how much interest there is from people under 21, but all ages shows are a Good Thing (tm), so I applaud the effort.

Washington's liquor laws are anal to the extreme, and the Washington State Liquor Control Board are the folks in charge of overseeing them. The short version is that bars may have all-ages shows, but alcohol must be kept and consumed in an area separate from everyone who's not 21. They STS folks had contacted the WSLCB and figured out what would need to happen to make the Sunset eligible to put this show on, and things were proceeding--until the WSLCB officer who's in charge of Ballard changed. The new WSLCB person basically said "Uh-uh. No Way". So now they're looking for another place to put the AA show on, and I suggested The Paradox an AA venue about half a mile down the road.

I hope it works out.

the policy sounds similar to the DC one for under 18, where Nation had to make an alcohol area seperate from the club venue for VNV Nation, and the only place they could do that was... around the main exit for the club.

highly inconvenient

Lame, when I was in college in NJ they had all ages shows with bars, just you couldn't buy booze if you didn't have a hand stamp.
