Computer up and running!

Mar 01, 2010 19:43

In honor of George Eads' birthday I treated myself by taking the time to reformat my hard drive.  Woot!  It's nice to be back online again without running into jcarousel issues.  Hopefully that thing stays far, far away from my computer from here on out.

It's good to be back and my computer is running so fast too!

I get that it's not my birthday, but since it's George's big day, I figure I'll just celebrate too. It should be some sort of holiday. St. George's Day!

The Geek in me responds... it was actually St David's Day, yesterday. jalola March 2 2010, 15:10:15 UTC
From WikiPedia....

Saint David's Day is the feast day of Saint David, the patron saint of Wales, and falls on 1 March each year. The date of 1 March was chosen in remembrance of the death of Saint David on that day in 589, and has been celebrated by followers since then. The date was declared a national day of celebration within Wales in the 18th century.

For England, St. George's Day marks its National Day. Most countries celebrate it on April 23, the traditionally accepted date of Saint George's death in 303 A.D.

But if George's parents had named him, David, there'd be too many David's on the show. Better he's unique.

WOWOWOWOW!!! So, March 1st is St. David's day (just so happens to be the first name of my other lovely man who I follow closely) and it falls on George's birthday. I believe that March 1st is now an official holiday in CgrGrl world.

YAY!! I'm so glad that you're back up and running. It's so frustrating not having a computer when you really want/need one. Good luck getting everything back and here's a drink to GE!

Getting it all back is pretty easy actually, just takes time. I did save all the important stuff (except my address book so sending me an email would be swell) on an external hard drive.

Congratulations!!

I'm always v.v.impressed when anyone does something technical and to have re-formatted (whatever that means) your hard drive and to have picked up speed in the process deserves a round of applause!!!

I would like to take credit for uploading MW2007 last Friday, but unfortunately it was so easy an untrained monkey could have done it!!

Reformatting is the act of erasing the hard drive and starting all over again. It's actually pretty easy to be perfectly honest. Just save all important data to an external hard drive or something and wipe it clean. My computer was really bogged down with crap I didn't need or want so I figured that I wanted to start with a clean slate.

Okay...do you have to manually chose the data to be saved? I do have an external drive and software that does a daily back-up, but someone else set it up, not me.

My computer is slower than it used to be and someone else told me that it's because it picks up *crud* when I open things up...even innocuous things! This is, presumably, what you've cleared out!

Do you have any malware programs running? On top of my anti-virus I also have malwarebytes, a-squared, and spybot. They are all free and do a great job keeping the computer clean.

I manually moved my pictures, documents, music, and GE videos over to the external hard drive before wiping it clean. I almost forgot about the videos, but remembered at the last minute. Phew!

A couple of my co-workers reformat their drives every couple of years. I've thought about it, but never got around to it until my computer ran into the jcarousel loop problem.
