UU atheist discrimination

Aug 15, 2010 15:59

I didn't believe that atheists are more marginalized than any other non-believer, but I believe differently about that now.

I just wrote a post on my journal that you might be interested in; "Atheist" red flagged, but not "Agnostic" or "Humanist"

Do you mind if I let the LJ atheism community know about this?

It's funny. I'd consider myself to be all three of those things and don't see why one facet of my identity should be any more offensive than the others.

Feel free to share. It has been approved now, but it did take ~48 hrs. vs. less than 4 mins.

Also, we should be happy we have net-neutrality for the most part, because that could change. At least the term hasn't been banned. With the state of the country as it is and Verizon & Google talking (or have they made an agreement?), you never know what will happen.

Oh, the advert was approved in the end? What changed to make that happen? (It sounded to me like it had been rejected.)

BTW, I didn't expect it to get rejected - the rule said they could take up to 3 days, but we have to fight to keep net-neutrality or that could happen.

I've heard that about some UU congregations, but that's not usually true. I'm sorry you had that experience.

In my congregation we have only about 30% atheists and we have ~30% who identify as Christian, including an Episcopalian priest. We also have pagans, and have had Muslims, and people of many other beliefs. Why are you on a UU forum if you're a "former UU"?
