I think you did a good job! I had to explain UU to a priest when I was a junior in (Catholic) high school.

Priest: "So what is this UU? Do they follow Jesus?"

Me: "Some do."

Priest: "Do they believe in God?"

Me: "Some do."

We went on like that for a while. Your version is much more coherent.
