D'oh- meant to say- Consider the Civic Hybrid as a compromise. Of course, they probably aren't available used yet, but they are in stock. Well- here at least. Well- actually, not exactly in stock, but we only had a 1 day wait- that's nothing.
Then again- the Prius does get better mileage and have better colors. But- the Civic is big enough for all four of us, and acceleration is decent. I noticed going from 60-70 was not it's first choice, but its hesitation is more an attitude thing, than truly noticeable. Like a fraction of a second delay, not a long delay.
Chris isn't interested in the Civic Hybrid at all. His issue with the hybrids is the poor acceleration, and so if he were going to agree to a hybrid, he'd go with the Prius because he likes it better in all the other categories. The Civic Hybrid got good mileage, of course - better than all the general sedans - but only half what the Prius gets

Well- our minivan 2002) is the first car we have with a latch. And it is much easier than before. Still annoying, but more like 3-5 minutes of annoying, not 20 minutes of fiddling, and finally saying it's as good as it gets. Still- our cars before that were '94, so there's lots of time in between there. I don't know- I think that some may have had the upper latch, but not the one that anchors the bottom. At least that's what I seem to remember from rentals

Yeah, I remember a display like that in Caroline (Kim from VF)'s car. I can't remember which make/model of hybrid it was, but it looked fun. :)
Our current car get mileage in the high 20s. I think that's about the best you can get out of a non-hybrid. But we drive it so little. Unfortunately, the thing has a lot of miles on it since we bought it used with nearly 90,000 miles at that point.
So frankly, I'd rather get a new car if it means it would last many more years. But since we have to share the car, it's not my decision alone.
The one advantage to the Civic Hybrid is the price. I remember it was under 20, and the Prius was over 20.
Well- from what I hear, the Prius is a long waiting list, but we never really checked it out.
For some reason, my urging him to test drive them both was ignored, and he just went out and bought what he wanted. And, I don't really mind. Mostly it just means that I dont' really know the answers on the Toyota because we never looked beyond what he found online.
But, since both of our cars are Hondas, that's nice. We have a place to take them, and we have gotten to know the dealer some. Plus, they are always extra nice to us, since we now have 2 Hondas.
I have never had a car over 90K. But, I am planning to have this one well past that. We are close to 32K, and it's less than 2 years old.
