Word, Keith.

I like it when he gets frothy with righteous anger, but I like it even more when something is so important that he remains calm and collected the whole way through.

Keith can be a douche sometimes, but in recent years, he's really stepped up to the plate. I'm astonished by how clearly emotional he is in this piece. He seems like he's choking back tears of rage. As I have been since last week.

That said, I think it's important to not put too much emphasis on this one proposition. Yes, it's California, and people don't expect that kind of bigotry there. And yes, this was intended to (although it may not) undo thousands of legal marriages already performed. But the truth is that there are many, many other anti-gay laws on the books, including constitutional amendments even harsher than this one, in many other states.

I understand Californians being angry and wanting to react to this. But I wish we'd seen this kind of fervor when Kansas and Oklahoma and Arkansas were passing their amendments, too.

As a Kansan, I am ashamed that I wasn't even AWARE of it passing. I was a relatively new voter, and I didn't even know about it until years later. I wish I hadn't been so oblivious.
