not hard at all. eyes on fremont carries a range of vintage frames and are familiar with fitting new lenses in them. they did my huge late 60's prescription sunglasses.
Thats exactly what I wanted to hear! I never realized that your sunglasses were perscription but now that I think of it, it makes sense. I wonder how much it would cost for my lenses because I require the superlitebecauseyourperscriptionissobad lenses.
leeann's sister mayann has worked there FOREVER. im sure if you mentioned that you were a friend of leeann and i's she'd do what she could to hook you up.
I actually hate to burst your bubble on this, but it is harder than most would expect to get vintage frames fit, ESPECIALLY plastic. Because custom ordering lenses to fit the fram is passe and pretty much not done anywhere for under $300 it's really hard for framers to do. They still have to "stretch" the plastic in order to insert the new lens. A lot of these old frames can't hold up.
I had a guy here in bellingham hook up a cool pair of 50's cat eyes for me, but he could barely do it, and I went into the deal with an understanding the frames may be ruined and I'd have to pay for the new lenses regardless.
Sorry sweetie. Maybe in Seattle they have some places that are more inept?
The frames I found are old stock from a warehouse and have never been used, so I'm hoping that will make them a bit easier to fit. The guys @ Eye's on Fremont are pretty confident so I'm crossing my fingers. And the lenses will be around $100 if it works. If not, the frames were under $40 so no harm, no foul.
There used to be a really great eyeglass place on John and Boylston. He could actually recreate vintage frames for you... The shop is closed, but I'm not sure if he might have moved somewhere else in town.
I remember walking past that place! And when I had insurance as well! I love my timing. Three years with amazing insurance coverage and I went to the doctor ONCE. I even had vision. Now that I'm without and working for a non profit I choose to get new glasses. But you can't blame a girl for the timing of her fashion inspiration now can you? :)
