The last post I made was about my wedding. Then I posted a meme, like a still-alive-message.
So now I'm writing a longer entry to keep you updated on my life.
After our wedding we went into honeymoon. You would think that traveling in June in Europe would certainly bring you somewhere sunny and warm... We went to Ireland, to Dublin to be exact and it was raining 12 out of 12 days. One some days it was raining so heavily that we were soaked before we could go to any museum or suchlike. On some other days there were grey clouds in the sky the whole day but only a small shower in the evening. Overall it was a very nice journey, but also very wet. I discovered that neither my rain jacket nor any of my two pairs of shoes are really watertight.
On one day we went to Newgrange and had quite much luck with the weather. It started raining as we got onto the bus that took us to the monument. It stopped raining just before we got out to visit the Hill of Tara, the place where the early kings of Ireland were crowned. The (high) grass was really wet (of course) but at least the sky was dry and so it was fun. As we headed back to the bus it started to rain again. Driving to the Newgrange museum in the rain, getting out of the bus and it's dry again. I didn't see much of the museum, mainly watched a video presentation and waited for the bus to the monument. The monument is really great! When we all went back to the busses that brought us back to the museum, guess what, it started dripping again. The way back to Dublin was mostly driving through rainy Ireland and learning about the history.
The flight back to Munich was delayed for about an hour because of heavy rain. This time the heavy rain and thunderstorms were over Munich/southern Germany, not over Dublin. We could board the plane on time, but then the captain told us that we had to wait about an hour because of heavy rain/thunderstorms over southern Germany. The flight after taking off was eventless. Back in Munich (or rather at the Munich airport) it still rained. But that couldn't bother us anymore. :)
After our honeymoon we returned to our normal life, and I gained interest in reenactment again. Or rather, I gained interest in calligraphy and medieval calligraphy and book-making. So I went to the meetings of my SCA shire again. This summer I started two sewing projects, both are very well in progress.
We (my husband and me) also painted a lot of tin miniatures for the taabletop game Confrontation, that we both played. We went to two big Confrontation tournaments this summer, and wanted to play there with fully painted miniatures. We didn't quite succeed in painting all the miniatures that we wanted to play. But someday all our miniatures are assembled and painted. (the day after that the world will probably end ;-) )
I visited
anjil on the first weekend of september and made a new (personal) sewing record. I sewed a whole dress in about six hours.
I wanted to go to a medieval market with Anjil, in garb, but didn't have any "suitable" garb. My only dress at that time was about 10 cm longer than me. Thus the sewing project from hell was born.
I ordered the wool cloth about a week (or a bit more) before I went to
anjil. On wednesday it arrived and I cut the parts out of the cloth. After that I continued painting miniatures.
On Friday I cut the arms out of the cloth, fixed all the parts (minus the arms) with pins, packed everything up (my stuff I needed for the weekend in a traveling bag, the sewing project in a smaller bag) and headed off to the S-Bahn to get the my train. In the S-Bahn I sewed the first part, the shoulder seams. At the train station in Munich I was looking for some lunch and found some fast food. The first train I took was really full and I didn't have enough space for sewing. I had to change half an hour later and got a seat with much more room around me in the other train. So I packed out my sewing project, unfolded the dress, folded it again and sewed on long seam (the whole side long). Refolding a bit more and sewing the other seam of the skirt of that side. In between some snacks. :-) Then I unfolded the dress again, laid part of it into the corridor, re-folded it again and started on the other really long seam. about an hour or two later I took the arms out of my bag and pinned it to the (now finished) body. When the train arrived and I had to go off, all that was missing was the hem of the skirt, the seams at the wrist and neck, one arm (that needed to be closed, already sewn on at the shoulder) and about 30 cm at the lower end of the skirt. (ok, I cheated a bit. The seams at the end of the skirt didn't go all the way down to the end, but stopped a bit below my knees. But it looked good).
On Saturday morning I finished the seam of the arm and of the neck and the dress was ready to be worn (with a underdress of course).
So on Saturday we dressed, first in modern clothes, over that we wore the medeval clothes and were sweating half of the day with this. We took the train to Hamburg and first went into the Globetrotter shop to buy a GPS receiver thing and a really tight rain jacket for me. We then hid the shoppings in our bags and went to the market. We were sweating, hungry and thirsty by that time.
The market was really great. It had many boots with stuff I wanted to have, so my wallet got empty and my bag got heavier and heavier. :) In the evening, when most of the kids were already gone home, we bought some mulled mead and laid down in the hay. That was really cool. Laying in the hay, drinking mulled mead, relaxing and at the same time watching/listening to a concert of the group "Faun". After the concert there was a plague procession (trying to keep the plague out of Hmaburg, but not succeeding) and even later, a night concert of "Schelmisch". That time we didn't find such a wonderful place in the hay, but we found a nearly as good place in the hay. At tht time I was very glad about all the clothes I wore because it was quite cold.
We got home at about 3 am Sunday morning, took off all our clothes and went to bed.
We got up again on sunday at about 11:30 am and made pancakes for breakfast/lunch (choose the name you like more).
In the evening we made a really nice chilli with chicken and a bit of chocolate in it.
That was most of what happened this summer. Or at least most of the interesting stuff from my life.
