Wearily I wander

Or something like that. Gwen kept me up most of last night with plaintive cries and walking across my bed ( Read more... )

I'm sorry to hear that Gwen is still keeping you up; if it's any consolation, our cats do that once in a while, too. Last night Sam spent a lot of time sleeping on our heads. I suspect this was due to the extreme cold. Even though the house is heated, the cats can tell that it's bitterly cold outside. I once read that cats noses are incredibly sensitive and accurate when it comes to measuring heat; they can discern differences that are completely imperceptible to humans.

As for losing weight: you can't afford to lose too much, I think. You're not at all overweight as it is.

I'm glad to hear that despite the sleep problems, overall Gwen is a plus. Teri will be relieved to hear that, too.

We're going to be at Arisia this weekend, of course - including Sebastian, although he might spend Saturday night with my parents. Any chance you'll stop by at the con?

Maybe if I kept the heat on at night, but at a low level? The problem is that the heating system makes a LOT of noise (as in, it's hard to hear the TV when the heating system is on) and it would be virtually impossible for me to sleep with that much noise, especially since it goes off and then comes on again at odd intervals.

I can afford to lose a lot of weight, Peter. I was 205 pounds (I think) at last weighing, which was months ago, and I may have gained weight since then. I'm abotu 6 feet tall, and light framed. I can probably go down to 150 with no problem, and about 170 is probably an ideal weight.

I do have things planned for most of Saturday and Sunday. It would theoretically be possible for me to see you guys on Friday, but I can't see my way to paying the entrance fee, as well as taking public transport in the bitter, bitter cold. If you like, you could come over to my house then, but that would involve missing part of the Con.

It's nice that Gwen's done your spirit good, if not your sleeping schedule.

Food-wise, you don't want to convince your metabolism that you're only going to eat once every two days. Bad stuff can occur as a result. At least be sure to have frequent snacks, just little, non-upsetting things like a banana or an apple here or there.

I don't convince my metabolism, my metabolism convinces me. It's not that I'm dieting out of choice here.

I think I've forgotten to mention before, but I'm really glad you finally got a cat. I'm so happy she's making you happy. When I worked I was always getting home before Scott and I know it always made me feel better to have our cat in the house. You're not really alone then.
As for the screaming, sometimes our cat will wake us in the middle of the night too. She has a knack for finding stuff that makes crinkly noises no matter where we put them. It's usually because she's out of food for water though. Our cat is a grazer - she always needs to have some food out or she freaks, even if she's not hungry at the time. Also, it may well have part to do with your being gone so much of the day. She probably spends all day sleeping when you're not there.

I feed my cat half a can of "wet" food three times a day, and her dry food bowl always has stuff in it. My cat is more fo a gupler when it comes to the "wet" food though.

Good point about her sleeping when I am not around. That does leave me in a bit of a bind though. I come home, she wants to play. That's fine, but when the lights go out and I am trying to sleep is not such great play time, especially when it involves me.

Her plaintive cries last night were a little heart-rending ("Please play with me, oh, pretty please. I'm so loooooonely."), but, cruel person that I am, I ignored them and tried to go back to sleep. When she decided to use the bed as a launching and landing pad for flights to the dresser and night tables it got to be a bit much though.

Hmm, one meal every two days doesn't sound good at all. I'm glad Gwen makes you happier than before, though. :) Sorry I keep missing you on AIM.

I started taking antacid last night. It seems to be helping a little. Stay tuned for further news. I may be able to go up to one decent (not huge) meal per day. Yay.

I hope we can talk soon.
