I feel so dumb.

I've had a nasty cold with a nasty, hacking cough since the week before Christmas. I had thought I'd kicked it in the days right before Christmas, but this week it's made a very unwelcome reappearance, and I'm thoroughly tired of coughing my guts out. (Almost literally! I don't think I've ever coughed so hard that I nearly puked in my life, but ( Read more... )

We had an outbreak of whooping cough in our middle school and one of the elementary schools about five years ago. It made it to all our news channels, and was so bad that there were public health meetings. I think they even started testing people who worked with the public. It was horrible to hear the kids who had it coughing though. It sounded painful.

So did you get your cough checked out by a doctor? Did she/he eliminate that as a possiblility?

I just wanted to let you know that I had a cough that I COULD NOT get rid of and my coughing fits would ONLY stop after I'd vomited and I was diagnosed with bronchitis. It lasted two months. I never would have gotten rid of it without antibiotics. So whether it's Whooping Cough or bronchitis, you probably need serious prescription meds to get rid of it.

*hugs*

At this point, I don't have bronchitis, but I've been warned if I don't improve in the next few days, I should come back and get "listened" to again.

The good news is the cough seems to be settling down, limited now to only infrequent bouts. And, I really don't feel sick anymore, either. Just annoyed.

We had a fifth grader last year that had it. The terrible thing is that the parent quickly informed the admin about it as soon as possible. The admin kept it hush - hush, even though one of the student's teachers had a toddler. The parent ended up contacting the teachers personally.

Schools - the breeding ground for germs and diseases.

oh...also be careful! My sister cracked a rib from coughing.

Ow! Cracked rib!

When I first came down with this garbage, I spent a miserable Saturday coughing all day long. On Sunday I ached so badly in my whole torso, no doubt from the abuse my ribcage took from the coughing. Luckily, it's never been as bad as that day since.

Wow. Well, I'm glad you don't have whooping cough, although at least that way you could have gotten some drugs. Are you sure you don't have bronchitis? Infections can morph into that. Also, I had a friend who had a cold/cough that wouldn't quit for weeks, and when she finally went in to the doctor, it turned out she had contracted walking pneumonia! So it's worth getting checked out, just in case.

Feel better, soon I hope!

Nope, no bronchitis at this point either, but I was warned that I need to improve or will need to come back and be re-checked.

I'm sitting here right now with a nice cup of tea, thank you!
