I've played a good deal of Mr G's work as well. "Country Gardens" is indeed hackneyed, but I don't think it's worth writing off all of Grainger's work by any means.
I once played an entire CONCERT of Leroy Anderson. I do _not_ recommend this. All the pieces were almost the same tempo. I don't know if it was a limitation of the band library we were using, or if it was just that he has a lot of works that are the same tempo / style, but it was quite monotonous.
