You'll be fine on the R7/NJ Transit. The R7 is actually the train near my house and I ride it all the time. My brother went up to NY a couple years ago on the R7 and NJ, and it was fine. People on my train in high school did it all the time, so if you somehow get lost, they'll be tons of other people who will know where you're headed. Good luck!

This is probably too late, but the R7 and the NJTransit use the same platform (except when they don't, and a train full of people end up running around the station trying to catch the SEPTA. Stupid train never waits.). Also, every NJTransit in Trenton station is going to NYC, and every SEPTA train is going to Philly. This makes life easier.
