Fall semester officially starts next Wednesday!  Campus is finally starting to come back to the life after the summer semester.  I've seen a ton of new people on campus with orientations now in full swing.  It was rather funny the other day walking around campus with the mobs of International Students (since they get a three day orietnation before ( Read more... )

I wonder if there will ever come a point where I associate the "new year" with the calendar year, rather than the new school year.  If my plans all work out, the answer is when I retire, but still.

Can't believe I've been in Japan for almost three weeks already. o.o Apologies for no updates, it's been a crazy trip thus far.  I've settled into research at the Historiography Institute at the University of Tokyo, and have found some interesting things that should prove a huge boost to my research.  I've been having a lot of fun too; visiting ( Read more... )

I am so glad to be done with this semester.  I finished the last of my papers yesterday morning, and manged to get all the work that I get paid for (ie videos for Residence Services, Curriculum development for the department, grading) on Friday.  Now I'm hanging at Edmonton's airport, waiting for my flight home ( Read more... )

If you haven't heard about it from any other social media I have, I got the scholarship I applied for. :D Got a very nice phone call on Thursday evening from a member of CFUW-Edmonton (also a BMC alum!) letting me know I got it.  Now I can afford to go to Japan this summer!  Still waiting for final confirmation on the job here at UofA, but now I ( Read more... )

Nearing the end! \(^o^)/ I can't believe that in three weeks I'll be officially half-way done my MA. Plus, I will be done classes until I start my PhD. (Second year is entirely thesis work, so I have no courses at all.)

After a few rough-ish weeks (ie being a little depressed), I am back and better than ever!

I am really glad I took that weekend off a couple weeks ago from the internet.  Definitely gave me the space I needed from unwanted topics of conversation, and the smack to the head I needed of "you are spending too much time online. Stop it."  At some point ( Read more... )
