[Sarah is humming under her breath as she approaches the TARDIS, and there is a bounce in her step that could only be accounted for as the anticipation of something magical. It was her birthday, and after all, you only turned sixteen once. She hadn't quite believed the disclaimer that this dinner just happened to be on her birthday, that it was

[Once she found an open chance to talk to the birthday girl, the ten-year-old skips up to Sarah with her hands hidden innocently behind her back. She's definitely not shy, even if this would be their first meeting.]

Hello~! Happy birthday, Sarah!

[And Sarah can't help but grin at the beyond adorable little girl she's heard so much about. Since she's not shy, either, she immediately leans forward and gives her a hug.]

[Her face flushes slightly. She didn't expect a hug, but she giggles, happily returning the hug with one arm. She's hiding something in her other hand...]

Mii~, I have a present for you...

[She pulls back and holds out a folded piece of paper from behind her back.]

But, I'll only give it to you if you promise not to ha-ha laugh, okay?

Oh, Rika, just you coming tonight is a wonderful present.

[Smiling conspiratorily, as though the two of them share a secret, Sarah kneels down and whispers.]

I promise, cross my heart.

[Kaye couldn't help but grin in amusement of the whole surprise, especially at Sarah's reaction. It was such a typical surprise birthday party, but at the same time, so nice. It was relaxing in contrast with the otherwise surprising and sometimes terrifying pace of the City.

Whenever Kaye got a moment to catch Sarah when she wasn't flocked with people she runs up behind her and tags her on the shoulder, mischievously hoping to startle her a bit.]

Boo!

[In her other hand, though, she's holding a small parcel wrapped in what appears to be newspaper comics. What? It was recycling. And Kaye thought it was cute.]

[And Sarah does jump - although one would think the previous surprise would have prepared her - because she is easily startled. Whirling around, she sees her dear friend and grins. Not to be outdone, she holds her hands up to her expressively horrified face, her exaggerated gestures mimicking the silent film stars.]

Eek!

[Smiling, she hugs Kaye.]

I'm so glad you came!

[Kaye is quite pleased with her reaction. She giggles impishly and after she is hugged, before she says anything else, she thrusts the wrapped gift toward her.]

Happy birthday! I wouldn't have missed it, even with the stupid curse and Corny wanting us to stay inside.

[Inside the parcel is a cloak - a red cloak, to be exact, and hooded. It appears old and vintage, not new and machine-made from a costume store.]

[Sarah's expression clouds for only a second - there was a stupid curse? But she doesn't get a chance to ask, as she is immediately distracted. Oooh, present. She giggles at the wrapping, which is so perfect and so very Kaye, tearing into it impatiently, wondering within herself what it could possibly be, when finally she pulls out of the parcel...

...the most beautiful red cloak she's seen outside the pages of the Brothers Grimm.

She's quite literally stunned for a few moments before looking up at Kaye, her eyes aglow.]

Where did you - how could you find - Kaye, this is gorgeous!

[Anita showed up and kept to the sidelines, not exactly hiding but keeping herself seperate from the rest of the crowd. She hadn't seen anyone she'd want to really speak to, other than Mat, but she wouldn't bother him. No, she'd come to see Sarah and that was what she was planning on doing, even if she really sucked at parties.

After catching a glance of the birthday girl, she made her way to stand close by her side.]

Well well. About time you got out and mingled with the rest of the crowd.

[Sarah smiles at that, recognizing Anita's voice before she turns to glance at her]

There's an unwritten rule about being a wallflower on your birthday, I think: it's just not supposed to happen.

[There are so many things she wants to ask Anita - how she's been, how much sleep she's been getting, how life in general is, but first...]

I'm glad you came, Anita!

[She makes a point to give the girl a warm smile and a quick hug before pulling away]

I wouldn't have missed it for anything, Sarah. I'm not sure how long I'll stay, but I had to at least stop by and see the birthday girl. Besides, I have something for you, and I'll have you know I picked it out without a certain vampire's help.

[With a flourish, she hands over the brightly wrapped gift.]

[She unwraps the present eagerly, her eyes lighting up when she pulls out the beautiful comb]

[Oh, what a surprise! Just Sarah's pretty face was worth the come.

Ananova makes her way to Sarah with little hesitation, smiling brightly, waiting for the young woman to speak to her other friends; she chuckles a little, opening her arms to her warmly]

Sarah, Sarah--! Oh, happy birthday, my darling girl!

[Sarah's face completely lights up when she sees her dear friend, returning the hug tightly]

Ana! Thank you so much - oh, it's so good to see you, I'm so happy you're here!

[laughs a little, keeping the embrace a while]

[She blushes, still smiling, looking down at her dress (white and fluffy, predictably) before looking back up at Ana gratefully]

They told me this was supposed to be a quiet dinner at home. Good thing I didn't listen to them, huh?

[Dawn wanders in, a brightly wrapped box in her hands, covered in glittery ribbons and shiny things. She figures Sarah will appreciate the wrapping nearly as much as the present- a long, gauzy, full skirt and a pretty top, plus some jangly bracelet and an anklet with bells on it- inside. She spots sarah standing alone for a moment and rushes over to hug her]

Happy Birthday! Sweet sixteen at last. Congratulations, babe!

[she holds out the present]

[Sarah lights up when she sees Dawn, returning the hug, completely surprised all over again and absolutely delighted.]

Thanks! Oh, Dawn, I can't open this, it's too pretty!

[She opens the box super carefully, keeping all the glittery shiny things on a nearby table (hey, they'd work great in a scrapbook). Once she does get to the present, she gasps softly - there's not just one present in here, there are four, and all of them are fabulous. She looks up at Dawn again, smiling even more, because another hug is definitely in order.]

I love them, you're the best, thank you!

[She pulls back enough to face her friend]

I'm so glad you're here - and God, you look amazing. What, there's no adoring fan club trailing behind you?

[She playfully looks over Dawn's shoulder, as though she expects to be beseiged by Dawn's adoring fans any minute now]

[Dawn bounces a little as Sarah opens her gift, then grins at the happy look on her face]

I'm glad you like them. They reminded me of you; all glittery and like a princess.

[she laughs and shrugs]

Nah, left 'em at home. The adoring crowds can get tiring.

I would've invited Sam, but I couldn't find him. So I just got all prettied up and headed over by myself.
