honestly, i don't see why not. if someone is truely in love with someone else then they should have all of the legal benefits that a man and a woman have. civil unions - definitely. marriage i associate with a church. i think if a church allows it then they should be allowed to under that church, but if a church doesn't allow it then they shouldn't be forced.
and obviously if it was made legal then if no current church allowed it then a new one would just be created.
A friend of mine has a similar opinion. He's fine with it so long as churches that maintain their homophobic position aren't forced to marry homosexuals.
the way i figure it is that even though i dont agree with them i wouldnt want to force my opinion on them any more than i'd want them to force theirs on me.
when king henry VIII wanted a divorced he either offed their heads or divorced-- after breaking from the catholic church and forming a new one that was extremely similar but suited his needs. so, the same thing would happen if gay marriage was legalized. in theory.
i hope it does get legalized some day, woo equal rights!
I realize that conflicts with your religion, and that is undoubtedly a tough battle raging. But, what exactly is there to think about? I don't mean that in my usual vindictive, spiteful way either. I'd really like to know what you're weighing in your head about it. Or is it exactly that, a battle to come to terms with one of the less agreeable parts of your religion?
