I'm happy to see this made it to the litte "big" screen in all of its final glory. You certainly don't need to hear any more from me at this point, right? But if you really want thousands and thousands more words... didn't think so ( ... )

I told you the original Seventeen was written partly as a sentence challenge, and partly as a reaction to Cheekymice's story of a bank robbery where Sandy chooses, without a second's hesitation or thought, Seth over Ryan.

I found the honesty of that story -- that Ryan would NEVER have the same status with the Cohens that their biological children do -- to be impactful. That's not a knock on the Cohens. It's just reality. Reality that left me feeling very sad for Ryan.

But the cool thing about fiction? Other realities become possible. Even ones where there are families who might love Ryan best. The two are not necessarily mutually exclusive... or are they? Hmmmmmmmm.

It is most certainly a sad reality. For anyone other than a "Ryan" or Ryan, it would be a bitter pill to swallow. Ryan, if he is even aware of it or ever considers it, would expect nothing but. After all, he's never experienced primary/first, only, equal (in any positive sense), or valued status.

The idea of an alternate reality, where all things are possible, is just the ticket. If the family and the reality don't exist in one circle of fic-land, Dante, create another!

And Ryan forgot " now I have two sons to worry about". Thank you for writing and charing. Love this story. Hugs

Hee. I expect the poor boy was still reeling from the "worst nightmare" language for Kirsten's next words to have had very much of an impact.

(And what was Kirsten thinking, saying that whole 'worst nightmare' stuff anyway? If she wanted to tell him she was worried about him -- that she thought of him as her child -- why didn't she just say so? Without that incredibly hurtful prelude? The writers did Kirsten no favors there.)

Many thanks!

Thank you so much for the update!
Sometimes I'm torn between the Cohens and the Harts, I know Sandy and Kirsten have made mistakes, huge mistakes, but they cared about Ryan in the last three years and the Harts weren't there. I like that Ryan is comfortable enough around them to share some feelings and happenings, but he didn't need them to judge the Cohens. After all they are his family, he lived with them, he never lived with the Harts.
Thank you again for this fantastic story.

One note: In my little fic-world, but for the fact that Dawn wouldn't let the Harts have him, he would have been living with them years ago. (See Seventeen.)

We're 'seeing' this chapter from Ryan's point of view. Are the Harts 'judging' the Cohens, or is Ryan simply worried that they are?

Is there cause for a family who loves this child to worry about what they're hearing?

I'd be worried, were I Megan and/or Sam.

Glad you're still reading. Many thanks!

You are right, the Harts came back after three years to find Ryan with another family which obviously didn't care much about him. They don't know the Cohens like we do, they only see Ryan and the stories they hear must be terrible for them.
Ryan must sense this and he is worried.
I like the Harts very much but I think they should be a little more sensibel too. When they really know Ryan they should see that this is very hard for him. They should take it slow.
You got me thinking. Thank you for that.

Thank you, I really like this fic.
The Harts especially Megan are obviously guilty for leaving Ryan and perhaps guilty that they didn't do more, but I worry that they are making Ryan doubt his place with the Cohens.
The ease between them is apparent and some good points were raised to Ryan about his value. Can't wait to see what happens next.
