I've been very slow to politics. Although I'm interested in almost every topic under the sun, politics was always one that couldn't keep my attention. I wished to be an informed and active citizen but wasn't

McCain's campaign is doing something really stupid, highlighting his reversal on new offshore drilling (he used to oppose it) and attacking Obama for it. McCain used to be able to use the environment as a way to keep voters thinking he's different from Bush and the rest of the Republicans. He's not actually that good on the environment, but his image has been that he is. Now that he's doing this, it gives Obama a great opening to say, basically, "I'm for renewables and McCain is for oil".
For example, notice the second half of Obama's latest TV ad:
Several of the images and quotations there are basically saying, "I'm for renewables, McCain is for oil", and the bizarre thing is that McCain's own campaign is reinforcing that very message.
Natural Resources Defense Council has a pretty good ad against expanding offshore drilling that they're collecting money to pay for running in the papers.
Blah, I can't support either major candidate. They're both crooks as far as I'm concerned, just in slightly different ways.
One thing that automatically tells me an organization is up to no good is the following phrase:
"Pay their fair share."
That's a red flag that a group believes that they have the right to the lives or livelihood of others, and have nefarious intent (either knowingly or unknowingly).
I don't think it really matters how much profit a company makes as long as there is no governmental favoritism going on that skews competition. Now, when it comes to the oil industry, I'm pretty sure the government and the oil corporations are in bed together.
Still.. it shouldn't be the fact that they make record profits. That's a class warfare tactic.
