This is what happened, flist. I commented on a post by muchtvs, and somehow she wound up challenging me to post an update of this story, which I haven't touched in a year, by the end of September. Oooookay. Now I remember this. This isn't the one where someone left Ryan crushed by fugly furniture with no idea what had happened (I think there was a surreal chapter to distract...).

I actually need to back up before I can read more. I confess I've forgotten too much.

Yeah, I had to refresh my memory but I am pleased you updated!.
I love the flashbacks - the relationship between Ryan and Trey. Loved the last sentence.

Him and Trey against the world, yes? Just as he told Marissa. The flashback captures that perfectly, while giving us that glimpse into Frank as a young "father". Poor Trey - he knows it's too late for him, but knows too that Ryan with the Cohens is a good thing. This chapter reminds me most of how in canon we had to believe that Trey wanted the best for Ryan and was "there" for him as a kid, and therefore how dreadful it was what he did to him in the end, and how devastating it must have been for Ryan even though he'd never talk about it. Thanks for tapping in again to the most fascinating of relationships the show brought us.

Aw, mel, you're still reading this old, old fic. Yay! And yay that you got everything I was going for here. (Plus, I agree with you: as much as I loved the Cohens + 1, Ryan and Trey was the most fascinating relationship that the show brought us.)

Huh, guess that means you win your little mini-challenge with muchtvs. Which means, muchtvs now has to write something for me. :)
That challenge was so totally win-win for me. At least one of you (in this case you) updates a story I wanted to see again and the other hopefully is nearing an update as well AND writes an additional story -> More fic to enjoy \o/

Hee. I'm glad muchtvs got the additional story to write since I'm struggling to update "Best Forgotten." Meanwhile, I'm pleased you enjoyed this. Papa!Atwood is definitely showing up in the next (final) installment of the story, whenever it appears.

Thanks for the update. I enjoyed your take on the earlier incident. It so fits with what we know of the Atwood family dynamic. Now I need to go back and reread to refresh my memory on the rest of the story.

Oh dear! Sorry about that. I'll try to finish this story before we all forget this chapter (say, before another year passes?) But yay! indeed for more of muchtvs's story. I hope she posts soon. Meanwhile, thanks for sticking with this!
