I agree with you. I'm not quite as big of a Potterhead, but I never really took care to complain about the adaptations. It's impossible to fit everything, especially after book three, into the movies. I was kinda bummed that certain things like SPEW and Winky didn't make it into Goblet of Fire, but that really is my only minor complaint. I think the adaptations were the best they could be, and they are a somewhat different entity.

The Harry Potter generation! Yes! Because that's really what it *was* :o
I loved the world, although it sometimes made strange sense (just who was making these laws anyhow? And their court system? Jesus Christ...) and the movies brought it to a different life than the books. :) I don't think anything has been quite so big (in terms of fans, in terms of canon material... in terms of years in production), and I don't think anything will be for awhile...

I really enjoyed reading this! I am such a huge Harry Potter fan as well. I own, and have watched the DVD's countless times and have re-read the books over and over again. Yes, there are inconsistencies between movies than can drive one mad. And there are so many things left out, as is often the case when turning a book into a movie. I do think however that the books and movies stand alone and separately as beautiful works of art. And that can't be said of every book series to film adaptation.

I haven't read the books, but I have seen the movies with my children, and I really enjoyed them. I loved the first one more than the others. Since I haven't read the books, I'm spared the frustration over inconsistencies and missing plots. When I see movie adaptations of books I love, I try hard to set the books aside and just try to enjoy (or not) the movie as its own material.

I dislike the fact that the Weasley twins were all but written out of the films, but like you, I still liked them very much.
