The Unasked Question

Not sure if any of you remember the fics I wrote last year called Tragic Little Hero and Affection. I planned to write two other short fics in the same universe and I've finally done it. Well, I've finished one and have started on the fourth part. This is, I'm sure, my subconscious searching for any way it can to not work on BLTN. Whatever the ( Read more... )

I must say that the "tragic little hero" series is probably my FAVOURITE of all fanfics. In fact, I think "tragic little hero" is my favourite short story of all time. I was high anticipating this and honestly, I was expecting the story to be a little more angsty, but I have had VERY MUCH time pondering what would happen. And now that you have written it, I love it!!
Kudos to you!!!!

It's nice to know that so many people love the TLH series, because I love writing it. I didn't go the typical fan fic route of high octane angst because, honestly, that bugs the crap out of me. From what we've seen of Harry so far, in canon, he doesn't have high levels of angst regarding his love life. Maybe he will. But so far he hasn't. If JKR starts writing that, then maybe I'll follow suit. But "deep thinking Harry in touch with his emotions" isn't how I view the character.

So glad you liked it! Thanks for the review!

like it??
I LOVE IT!!!
Because the story is not the typical "i love you hermione, i love you harry" story, it's something that all people can really enjoy.
I have actually recommended "tragic little hero" and "affection" to some of my friends (ron/hermione shippers) and even they think it is a very well written story
so a definate kudos to you!!

This is great, Mel. I think you meant Sally-Anne Perks, rather than Mary-Anne, but that's a minor typo. I love how you captured Harry's emotions and his realization that his feelings toward Hermione were no longer entirely platonic...

while he watched his two best friends pretend to not fancy each other

What makes him think that Hermione fancies Ron? Just because he's sure Ron fancies her?? Interesting that Neville comes in and pulls the rug out from under Harry at the last minute. So this story fits between TLH and Affection. Lovely work, as usual :)

I don't think Harry's given Ron and Hermione a lot of thought before now. But, I think he assumes she likes him from the comment she said after the Yule Ball. And, lets face it; Harry's not great with reading people.

Thanks for the review. I'll change sally-anne. ;)

Brilliant! I think this fic works pretty well as a standalone, but I will re-read "Tragic Little Hero" and "Affection" again to get a clearer idea of the whole picture. I think this is my favorite so far of the three... there are so many little moments here that I absolutely loved. Harry just observing Hermione engrossed in her reading in the back room... Harry correctly observing that Hermione IS angry, and telling her so while teasing her out of her anger... The line: "Sometimes I wonder if you don't think all of this is just a complex scenario out of a book"...
Harry increasing jealousy... Harry getting teased about pulling out his "Boy-Who-Lived persona"...

And, of course... my favorite squee! moment of all: "I wish."

This scene seems very realistic in terms of the actual books; I can see this scene happening in the pages of Book Six or Seven, and who knows? Maybe we'll see something similar. I can't wait for the final part!

Which is why you don't see the high level of angst or introspective Harry or long paragraphs of plot exposition that is really just a shipping positioning essay disguised as fan fic.

JKR has a quote that states that Harry will start asking questions that the reader and he will wonder why he's never asked before. Maybe it's to do with romantic stuff (hermione) maybe it's not. But, considering Emma is one of her favorite books, and one that all writer's should aspire to write, says to me that it will be romantic.

We can only hope! I can already picture Harry following in Emma's footsteps... misguidedly trying to set up Ron and Hermione together... only to discover that he himself has feelings for Hermione...

But then again, JKR is probably too smart to go with what must be now a predictable a route. Since all we can do is wait for the next book, I'm glad that you're providing wonderful fiction in the meantime. Can't wait for the 4th part!

Nice! Even though I haven't read the precursors, this is a good stand alone. Liked the touch where Harry just pops out with his regret about not snoggin. Ah, the subconscious. What would we do without it?

AAACK! You absolutely must read them, especially Tragic Little Hero. It's a scene I can actually see happening (don't I wish!) in Half-Blood Prince :D [/Mel-spam]
