The Unasked Question

Mar 25, 2005 22:38

Not sure if any of you remember the fics I wrote last year called Tragic Little Hero and Affection. I planned to write two other short fics in the same universe and I've finally done it. Well, I've finished one and have started on the fourth part. This is, I'm sure, my subconscious searching for any way it can to not work on BLTN. Whatever the ( Read more... )

I have a love/hate relationship with this story. I was shocked at how much I loved a story that Harry and Hermione don't really get together...Also shocked that it was as story where Hermione supposedly likes Ron back, is flirting with ernie Macmillan, and for once, Harry's not the oblivious one. I love all those elements though - they are the reason it's so awesome. I particularly loved you revealed Harry's little epiphany. I love how he felt as if his 'insides were dancing'- the most perfect way to describe knots in your stomach. Will we be getting another part of this any time soon, or are you too busy with BLTN?

Wow it's late. Sorry I forgot to proof-read my sleepy comment. I meant to say " I love how you revealed Harry's feelings for Hermione" It's really late (or really early, depends on how you see it...) so I am incoherent. Happy Easter.

Hey again! I replied to some of this below, but I'll reply to something else up here about Harry not being oblivious. Isn't he loveable? I wanted his epiphany to be subtle; a small crack in the facade that he's been living behind regarding his best friend. Maybe I've read too many 'bolt of lightening' revelations. There's no maybe about it. I have. And, I've read entirely too much of Harry being introspective and deep about his feelings. And too much where Harry and Hermione start snogging each other senseless. One, I don't think any of that will happen in canon. Anything that happens in canon will be toned down by about 90% from what we have created in canon. So, that's what I tried to do here.

I've started working on the next part (where they get together, Yea!). I'm a bit torn, to be honest. Expect a post about it soon. :)

I really liked the way you revealed it. It was sweet and simple...the way it REALLY happens. People hardly have 'lightning bolt' revelations when it comes to crushes or first loves. There just comes a day when you realize you like how it feels when someone touches you, or you love the sound of their voice, or just the way they *look* at you. That's why I like this story so much. I just love how simple you made it. I love how she touched his arm afterwards and it made him jump...realizing you like someone and then in the same hour having to sit by them and have them touch you is a bit of a jittery business.

I read fanfiction and think that hey, I'm that age. Love and first crushes isn't some kind of grand affair among myself and my acquaintances. I think as always, that you've done a splendid job of capturing these characters- in every aspect. I'll be looking out for that post soon. ;)

I went fiction hunting today...After searching through pages and pages of crap, then reading your story, I have decided to raise your status. You go from 'fucking amazing' to fanfiction royalty. I definitely dub you top five authors of all time. No, I lied - Top three. You're surpassed only by Lori and Ebony (Trouble in Paradise). Okay, I'm done with my fangirling duties, so I'm off to sleep. Night Mel.

Geez, wow. That's might high praise that I'm not sure I deserve, but I'll take it! Thanks!

It's interesting to read how people perceive the interactions in stories you write. As far as 'authorial intent' goes: Hermione wasn't flirting with Ernie MacMillen at all. He may have been flirthing with her. Harry thinks that Hermione likes Ron, but his impressions are incorrect anyway, cuz she doesn't ( ... )

I know that Hermione wasn't really flirting with Ernie and that she probably didn't like Ron....but it's enough shock that Harry *thinks* this is what's going on. Ernie Macmillan?? Plus, Transfiguration doesn't really seem like a 'hey why don't you jump into my pants' kind of topic. I'm just enjoying the whirlwind of emotions that Harry is going through. I just love it so much that one day...simply enough, it just hit him - and because of that he sees all these things that aren't there. Sorry if my reply seemed a little unclear, It was like 5:30 in the morning when I wrote it. (insomnia, urrrgh) I still mean what I said about the author thing. If you can find someone who can top you for the number three spot, I'd certainly like to see it. I've been into fanfiction for about three years now, and if there's one thing I've learned, it's that there's a hell of a lot more crap out there than there is something really worthwhile. So, I stick to my top three comment.

Of course JKR is off somewhere behind a desk, cackling to herself. I think she thoroughly enjoys shocking and misleading the general public. I, for one, feel manipulated. ;p Some people say that her books are totally predictable, other say that she does the opposite of what would be expected. I find myself inbetween. There are some things she writes that shock you to no end, (sirius!) and other things that you kind of expect. I just wish she'd be less iffy on the relationship status. They're fifteen! The shit would have hit the fan long before now. She MUST like to toy with us. It's the only reason for doing this. You know what's absolutely hilarious? I've talked to all my friends who love the movies but have never seen the books, and all of them think that H/Hr is more obvious than R/Hr....and they've all seen PoA. I *knew* PoA was much more a H/Hr movie than a R/Hr movie, despite Alfonso's intent. Speaking of which, it's a good thing he probably isn't going to direct any more of the movies. Can you imagine what he'd do with part ( ... )

I'm refusing to read your comments on the off-chance that the other stories get discussed - I don't want to be spoiled! :) I apologize if you've already answered this for someone else -- where can I find Tragic Little Hero and Affection? And what order should I read them in? :)

I loved this story! The bit with Zacharias Smith was priceless. Can't wait to see the others!

You can read them at portkey.

Hope you like them. Read Tragic Little Hero, then affection. This one fits between the two.

Enjoy!

I need someone to badger me. I seem to have lost all motivation to write. I wrote 6? or 7? pages of crap today. Total crap.

But, I was happy with this little fic. Maybe I should re-read my own stuff to remind myself that I can do it.

Glad you liked it!
