In which Cherie throws a fucking rave over a mytharc episode and everyone goes home very confused. This is my first honest-to-God episode reaction post since I gave up on Season 6.

There are spoilers here, but truly, what could spoil this episode? Nothing could. You shut your hussy mouth. )

I'm so pleased you loved the episode too! I've gotten unused to current canon making me ~feel so much and now my stupid feelings are all over the place.

Rowena totally makes Crowley's scenes more fun.

WHAT ELSE CAN BE SAID THAT HAS NOT BEEN EXPLICITLY STATED IN THE ACTUAL CANON I MEAN

Yessss.

No, yeah, it was totally out of left field. I honestly am trying really hard to think of a time since S5 that a mytharc episode had me that engaged. I can't think of very many, and the ones I can weren't nearly as plot-heavy as this one.

*all the high fives*

I kept waiting for the inevitable disappointment after a strong opening, and then the tension kept building, and it was one beautiful shot after another, and holy crap I did not see Dean's power move coming (ugh Cain's voice when he clutches his wrist and asks "What's the matter?"), and aaaaaaall the silent facial expressions from this beautiful manly cast, and Dean you poor macho bastard.

Yeah, man, I was the same way. "Haha, this opening conversation is way better than most of the attempts at brother banter this season. I guess I can cling to this when the rest of the episode SUCKS." ...30 minutes later... "I...am still waiting for this to start sucking what happen!!?!?!?!" IT KEPT GETTING BETTER.

And the fight, yeah man. They kept cutting to show the knife in Cain's belt and I was like, "What good is that gonna do??" I guess they showed me. XD

It was so good. Their performances showed it, too. You could tell they were all more inspired by the material than they have been in fucking ages. Not a single line of look was stilted or bored.

This episode is in my top 3 of all time. Loved absolutely every second, and I love your theory on how Sam and Dean are going to defeat the MoC. Squee!

Top three! That's epic. IT FEELS SO GOOD TO HAVE A NEW EPISODE THAT CAN CONTEND FOR BEING A TOP EPISODE AGAIN. God, it was brilliant.

I really hope it's something like that. And not just because I am the craziest shipper, but I think it would be genuinely good storytelling, having the Boys correct that sin by inverting the expectation. I'm worried they're gonna go with the boring as hell "one of the boys kills the other" bullshit I've seen some fans predicting, and I will just pluck my eyes out.

YES TO ALL OF THIS <3333333

Also, this was the first episode in I don't know how long (since the whole human thing?) that I felt like Cas was actually not just taking up airtime. Seriously, he has been pretty useless for a while (and I say that having really liked him in the beginning, as well as being kind of excited when he became human about the possibilities of human!Cas), so yay! for actually being useful! Still think they should have left him human though...

You know, I still felt like he was kind of just there standing on the side being useless, but I liked that the episode knew that rather than pretending he's the main fucking character like so many of the mytharc episodes lately. I mean, I hate to say it. I really really loved Cas too in seasons 4-5 and one of the things I hate so much about S6 was the character assassination they dragged him through. But the fact of the matter is, he's had no place in the narrative since S5 ended. I tried to pretend it isn't so in S7-8, but the degree to which his story hasn't connected to the Boys' hit comedic heights last season, and this season no one is even pretending. I hate it because it's made me start to resent a character I used to really loved. So I liked that he was off to the side enough in this episode for me to forget how annoying they've made him to me. :////
