International Year of the Potato?

Was anyone else aware that it is the International Year of the Potato? When did this happen? Who even decides this kind of thing? But according to the promotional leaflet that came free with my coffee, that's exactly what it is. To quote from it directly:

Halfway through the International Year of the Potato the Lincolnshire Show is the ideal venue ( Read more... )

It's good to know I'm not alone on this... Although come to think of it, there's no rational reason for assuming I would be, considering how awesome he is :-)

Well, I know most of my housemates find him hilarious, but I doubt any of them lust after him (though 2 of the 3 who watch are guys....)

Yes, I did know it was because it was on Countryfile on Sunday. I'll go with you if you want? We can leave Matt and Ilya to muse on the benefits of days out...

There were a bunch of Russian students in Boots Library at Trent and I was like 'heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!'. Not that I could understand what they were saying, much, mostly because they were talking at a normal library conversation level, but it was still great :D

Coffee lust? You've met daffodileithil, right?

So, by inference, if coffee could take human form, it'd be a polygamist with hundreds of probably far-too-bouncy children?

Cheryl: what's the beverage equivalent of Ilya?

Oops, I was sure I posted that last comment in response to Dawn. Obviously not though... Oh well!

To answer your question I... don't actually know. At first I thought not coffee, but the more I think about all of the alternatives, the more I think coffee is actually the most appropriate thing I can think of. If I come up with anything better I'll let you know.

What date did they say it was on? Cos according to this leaflet, it's 18-19 June, in the middle of the week. Not the most convenient of times really, though as it happens I have got time booked off that week, but I am officially supposed to be traipsing across the Peak District with Ilya... Officially... Are there any other days it's on that you know of?

Yes I've met daffodileithil, I even offered her filter coffee the other day. She agreed very quickly! Possibly this is a shared passion that I should discuss with her, though I think most likely we would just end up arguing about the proper way to drink it!
