I honestly think you should look into trying a Linux distribution instead of Windows. At least most of what you want to do would work, and it's impervious to most viruses/malware, at least to such an extent that if this ever happened again we'd know it was due solely to user error.

I don't even know what that *is* though - all my brain gives me when someone says 'linux' is a penguin and technobabble. I barely seem to function now, much less with penguins and technobabble? haha, fail me

I know it's an old post - did you manage to remove SmitFraud? There is a program called SmitFraudFix you can run in safe mode and if you find a program called HiJack This you can get someone to analyze the logs for you to clean out it's traces.
