We love you.

Love you two too.

And, yeah, it's the right choice.

It sounded like they were asking for far too many sacrifices. I'm glad you're doing what's right for you.

It actually ended up being less about the sacrifices (e.g. Give up our shitty apartment? Sure!) and more about a lack of interest and flexibility on their end.

To the extent I'm disappointed, I'm only disappointed that the job wasn't what I had originally thought it was; I'm certainly not disappointed to walk away from what the job actually was.

Indeed.

This, by the way, explains why you haven't heard from me in a bit. The negotiations have been...hilarious.

I look forward to the whole story..so much that I'll probably be calling you in the next 48 hours to hear it firsthand.

As has been pointed out, and confirmed, it sounds like you made the right choice. The only thing worse than "no-faculty-position" is "faculty-position-that-isn't-right-for-you-and-makes-your-life-miserable".

We would love to talk to you guys. We kept wanting to call and update you, but every time we had that thought, we were like, "But we'll have a final resolution in a day or two, so we'll just call then," but nooo... it just kept dragging on and on... Point being, we would love to hear from you. :)

Elle is precisely correct -- we've thought that this was done a half-dozen times, and were waiting for confirmation which invariably (until now) turned into a new thought about what was going to happen.

And, we're dying to hear from you, and will call you if you don't call us.

I'm happy that you did what was good for you and didn't take something that you wouldn't be happy in. But I'm sad at the same time that it didn't work out.
