Small, Helpless Baby Animal

Any and all of yesterday's nonactivities and sole activity (a 2+ hour drive in the evening--very nice!) were instantly forgotten when we discovered the baby squirrel on the patio around dusk last night. We believe Momma Squirrel dropped the baby and ran when Ab barked at her from the back door--because Abbey DID bark at something and the next time

Okay, so the mother flying squirrel didn't pick up its baby, but was there any sign of a dumb-yet-lovable moose attempting magic tracks in the general area?

We had flying squirrels nesting in our attic a few times. They're like distilled essence of cuteness.

You know I'm not the sort that's particularly susceptible to cuteness, but I keep feeling all melty when I think about the little fella. I guess I have maternal instincts after all! I'm just so glad Baby survived our clumsy care.
