Wow, I've never heard that tuna was bad for male cats! This information needs to be spread, I know soooo many people that give tuna to their cats as treats (including me, but he just...he wanted it so badly and I didn't know!).

yeah I had no idea either, and widget also LOVED the stuff. I know I gave it to him all the time. Apparently their bodies can't process the mercury very well and it causes crystals in their urine. This is very dangerous for males since it blocks them up.

Yeah from now on I'm going to be very careful with his diet!!

I'm glad things turned out ok, and you avoided an unnecessary surgery. I hate snotty vets like the one you mentioned, it took quite a few to finally find one I love. :/

Thank you, and yeah the vet was bitchy, i did not appreciate her telling me he needed something that dangerous when this was only his first blockage.

Yeah, I think in general more people need to look at the ingredient list when they buy their pet food and know what their pet needs when they're looking at it. I've yet to find a bag of rat food that properly compensates for the fact that they are omnivores so I tend to share a bit of various foods that I eat to make up for it. Thankfully, rats are able to eat pretty much anything without ill effects, so Risu could even eat chocolate and be okay, I just wouldn't want to feed it to her all the time. It's the same with Georgey and bananas. They're fine once in awhile, but as much as he fuckin' LOVES banana, he shouldn't eat it all the time.
