Your Result: The Inland North

You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

Which words did you say sounded the same to you? I said everything was different (I had a bit of trouble with dawn and don until I said them out loud a few times), but that the "ou" in about and loud are the same.

And yes, it's soda! People in upstate NY will say pop, but around here everyone calls it soda.

I think "pop" has infused random parts of the country or something--but it sounds so old-fashioned to me!

People in Indiana are too lazy to make any distinctions and all forms of soda/pop are automatically "Coke." Although Japan has now screwed with my mind in such a way that all fizzy things of the soda/pop variety are now "cola." Damn the katakana English!

Everything's coke? But what if you're ordering a sprite at a restaurant or something?

Then you have to specify, but it still kind of works the same. Like if I want a lemon-lime soda/pop, then I'll say "Sprite," but if they only carry Pepsi products, the waitress will ask "Is ----- okay?" (Sorry, I forgot the Pepsi version of Sprite!) But if you want Dr. Pepper, you say Dr. Pepper and if the store only carries Coke products, they'll ask, "Is Mr. Pibb okay?" Ack, confusing! Trust me, it all works out in the end.

Ah... I don't order enough soda myself (I only drink it when I'm really sick to settle my stomach), but it's kind of that way here, too. I think Pepsi's sprite is called slice!
