The whole Jews:guilt::peanut butter:jelly thing was getting old - and plus I got my ass kicked tough-love style by a close, long-time friend - so at the end of the year in San Francisco I hauled myself to one of those meetings designed to aid those of us with issues of codependency. I am not much of a support group joiner, but I had reached a point ( Read more... )

OK, I am rolling on the floor. I have dutifully girded my loins and showed up for at LEAST three OA non-meetings as well. I guess the half hour of time wasted on each equalled time away from compulsive snacking? But I more than made up for it afterward in (self)spiteful frustration. AWESOME.

And I know we share the same feelings on certain aspects of these things. Like, is your Higher Power a no-show? I'M JUST ASKING.

ONE meeting per week is so ridiculous - you live in Recovery Central!

oh man i have so much to say about this. i have much experience with several 12-step programs, both the good and the bad and the lifechanging and the hilarious. but it's very close to shabbos so i'll have to tell you my stories later.

this made me lol!

I have had other really positive experiences with other 12-step groups, and since this one really cuts to the heart of most of my issues, I was really REALLY looking forward to it, you know, existing. I look forward to hearing your tales - and Shabbat Shalom!

How frustrating and maddening when you're making genuine efforts to break destructive habits. I wonder what was different about the Bay Area ones. Well, I know that answer. Angelenos are flakes times infinity. {{{hugs}}}

aww, thank you for the hugs :> chitinous January 23 2009, 23:58:55 UTC
And re: Angeleno flakiness...for sure! This just seems so extreme. There was a lot of yelling inside my car last night...and I was the only one around, LOL.

Well that explains a lot. No one gives a shit about not-profit groups. Gr.
